The geographical situation, the road network, the communication infrastructure, the gas line, the unfinished constructions and uncultivated lands around Preiļi can be of interest for potential investors to develop production facilities. 461 enterprises were registered in Preiļi county in 2004: 135 agricultural, 13 woodworking,10 transport and 3 construction companies. The largest municipal companies are “Preiļu saimnieks” (Ltd) and “Preiļu slimnīca” (JSC).
The joint – stock company “Preiļu Siers” is the largest cheese producer in Latvia. The company key product is hard cheese “Čedars”. The company produces more than 3000 tons of this cheese a year, 95% of the product is exported to the EU countries: Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain.
The dressmaking company VS TEKS was founded in 1996, its turnover has increased from Ls 40 000 to Ls 1 00 000 in 2003. The company employs more than 200 people. All its production is exported to Scandinavia.
The farm “Korsikova” is owned by Anatolijs Mūrnieks. They cultivate 200 ha of land and specialize in the cultivation of grain and rape. The farm was one of the first in Preiļi District to get structural fund financing from the EU for machinery purchase.
